Huntsman’s Tribute to Paul Newman

The Huntsman Rolex Daytona A Homage To Paul Newman

It’s hard to believe that one of Rolex’s most coveted models was a dud in its early years. In fact, many Rolex dealers had so many of them sitting in their display cases, that it was regularly sold at a discount in the 60-70’s. The Daytona was considered a niche sports watch, not a must-have at the time.

Much of its transformation can be traced to actor and racing driver Paul Newman. Newman famously wore a distinctive Daytona with an “exotic dial,” a variation that collectors now call the “Paul Newman Daytona.”

The model’s legendary status was cemented when Newman’s personal watch sold for $17.8 million at a Sotheby's auction in 2017.

This legacy recently inspired a tribute from Savile Row tailor Huntsman. The historic tailoring house highlighted its connection to Paul Newman, who had been a Huntsman client during his lifetime. To honor that shared heritage, Huntsman created a bespoke homage to the Paul Newman Daytona. The project reimagines the iconic chronograph through Huntsman’s aesthetic lens, blending the worlds of precision watchmaking and classic British tailoring.

Huntsman enlisted Bamford watches for this collaboration and the results are stunning!
